Who First Ate That?
“Who was the first person to try eating that?”
This is actually something that crosses my mind not infrequently. Tonight I was thinking this regarding vinegar as I cooked up a simple chicken dish using a combination of garlic, red wine vinegar, and pomegranate balsamic vinegar.
What was the original process of vinegar like? Did someone leave some alcohol alone in the dark for a few weeks? And then who thought: “I bet the liquid that’s under all that slime would be excellent for preserving fresh food and keeping us healthy!”?
I know, I know. They didn’t speak English back then. But still. What were they thinking?!?
