Coming Out Is Still Relevant

I am reading a non-fiction audiobook on a scientific subject. This is a non-event. It happens daily.

This book topic is a specific field of psychology. It included a chapter talking about an individual’s sense of belonging.

What caught me by surprise is that the author went out of her way to talk about bisexuality. Specifically, the issues of bi erasure. And talked about her own experiences as a professor who found it important to disclose that she is bisexual to help those of her students who otherwise felt alone and that they had no one to talk with about what they were experiencing.

This book is current. It was published in 2019. This professor teaches in the United States.

I’ve been out for over 30 years. I live in the Bay Area inside the queer bubble. I forget what it’s like on the outside. It was a good reminder.

Yes, coming out is still relevant.
